We’ve Moved!

We’ve moved off this WordPress platform to a new site.   Please go to www.roomswithgreatviews.com.   This site was sort of a test site for us to see what we could do.  We think you’ll like the results.  The new site has over 200 posting already.  And you can search by word, map or country or city name.  It’s easy to send us a photo of your favorite hotel view.   Check it out at Rooms With Great Views.    And thanks.

Same view, one during the day and one at night.  Vancouver is a beautiful place.  Get a room as high up as you can get and tell them that you want a view.  Their website is http://www.empirelandmarkhotel.com/

Sorry that this isn’t a better picture.   This was at the View Hotel, which is the only hotel actually in the Tribal Park  (although there are other hotels less than 10 miles away, I think).  The views were really great.  Their hotels website has some great shots, as does this TripAdvisor site:   http://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationPhotos-g57072-Monument_Valley_Utah.html#17039346.  The hotel’s website is http://www.monumentvalleyview.com/.  Nice.

Albergo Milano in Varenna Italy, on Lago di Como

Lake Como in northern Italy is fabulous.  Our hotel, Albergo Milano,  in Varenna was warm and charming, and recommended by Rick Steves.  This was in 2001.  Ask for a “frontal” lake room.  They serve meals on a large terrace.  You can take hydrofoil boats that go from town to town on the lake, getting on and off wherever you want.   Great place.  The hotel’s website is http://www.varenna.net/.  Since “Rooms With Great Views” is a TEST site, and we don’t have all the bells and whistles working yet, make your comments below, but send your photos via an email attachment  to roomswithgreatviews@triad.rr.com.

Hello world! Welcome to Rooms With Great Views!

Ollantaytambo Ruins from Hostal Sauce, Ollantaytambo Peru.

Ollantaytambo Ruins from Hostal Sauce, Ollantaytambo Peru.

Hi!  And Welcome to the first posting of Rooms With Great Views.  The idea  for this blog is simple.  Send us your photos of those great views you had from your hotel window, along with any comment you want, and we’ll post them here.  Our hope is that this will be a great resource for those people for whom a view is important (people like us!).

Okay, so why didn’t we use a better photograph for the opening blog?   Because we don’t want you to think that you have to be a great photographer to post to this site.  A great photo is nice, but what we care about it is the VIEW.  The best shots for us are the ones that show the view and are obviously taken from a hotel (or hostal or B&B or yurt or whatever) room window.   See the photo in the header at the top of the page?  Now that’s a perfect shot for this site.  You’ll be seeing plenty of great photographs, we’re sure.

So send us a photo, and then tell us something about the hotel  (at the very least, the country and city and the name of the hotel) and make any comments you want (they may be edited for length and appropriateness).  It’s especially helpful if you know the Number of the room where the picture was taken, the rate (and the date that the rate applied), and the address and or/web address of the hotel.  And you could even mention whether you liked the hotel, the staff, the food, etc.  The minimum, however, is the name of the hotel and the country and city.

In return, we’ll post your photo and comments and give you the credit.  That credit can be just telling your name (if you want) or by including a link to your website, Facebook page, Flick’r page, or whatever you designate.  Naturally, all such links are at our discretion, since we don’t want to link to anything that others might find objectionable.  Also, although we might ocassionally  print comments that  relate negatively to a particular hotel, we don’t like doing that, since we want to keep this site upbeat.  This is about the VIEW, remember.  There are plenty of avenues available elsewhere  for reviews and critiques .

By the way, the view above is from our room in the Hostal Sauce (pronounced saw-say) in the Sacred Valley town of Ollantaytambo in Peru.  It was May of 2009.  Nice place, great location, helpful staff.  Their website is http://www.hostalsauce.com.pe/.

Since “Rooms With Great Views” is a TEST site, and we don’t have all the bells and whistles working yet, make your comments below, but send your photos via an email attachment  to roomswithgreatviews@triad.rr.com. Thanks.
